DECEMBER CHEER

Christmas music season. Even if I am studying 40-something terms of the human skeleton, jamming to some Frank Sinatra changes the experience.

(visit the music room on the site to check out the Christmas playlist!)

Lately, I have been thinking about the upcoming holidays: baking chocolate chip cookies for friends, gift-giving, cute outfits for my dog, etc... Whatever holiday that you would be celebrating is full of cheer, wonder, and love.

The winter season has really inspired me in terms of art, or deciding the cute outfits for my dog. It is a season to be excited about what's to come. One example could be being excited for gifts, or to see family. Another can be the birth of a new family member, or the birth of Jesus.

Despite finals, term papers, and essays that are coming up, driving past houses with the craziest holiday decor has taken my mind off of worries like that. Unlike last years stagnant (but present) holiday spirit, this year is really exciting since it is also my last year spending Christmas with my family as a high schooler.

With so much going on this December, like last minute gift shopping, plans for dinners, gatherings, Christmas decorating, and school work that is yet to be finished, I definitely stress over all of this. However, I feel more encouraged when thinking about winter break, the celebration of Jesus's birth, spending time with family and friends, and even watching the Great Christmas Light Fight.

December is an amazing month to get my mind off of college decisions that are approaching, but also a month where I can enjoy the high school atmosphere and peers one last time. This December reminds me about how much different my next Christmas will be, and the ending chapter of 2021. The nostalgia is definitely there, but so is my eagerness to the future and new year.

health fact:

"According to American Psychological Association, 38% of people surveyed said their stress increased during the holiday season, which can lead to physical illness, depression, anxiety, and substance misuse. The reasons given: lack of time, financial pressure, gift-giving, and family gatherings"

tips on overcoming holiday anxieties

- accept imperfections

-remembering what truly matters

-be kind

-focus on resolutions

-be aware of your mood

-take care of physical health! (eating, sleeping, exercising, etc...)

-ask for help

I even have a winter bucket list (that was once a mental list, but now an official list):

drink really good hot cocoa with friends

(have done this with some people already :)

make more time for Kaitlyn

bake chocolate cookies for friends and family

watch Ghibli films with awesome people

finish off my bath and body works waffle candle

create ultimate Christmas playlist of everyone's favs!

make the best gingerbread house

binge some Christmas movies

Lastly I wanted to also end with a Bible verse because of how it reflects my own sentiments regarding Christmas:

"Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord."

- Luke 2: 11
